Frequently Asked Questions

Where did Mission Furniture originate?

Mission style furniture has its origins in the late 1800s in San Franciso.  AJ Forbes built a chair for the Swedenborgian Church that used simple horizontal and vertical lines.  In the early 1900s, this style became more popular throughout the United States.  The term "mission style" referred to the Spanish missions scattered throughout early California where the original pieces were made.

Is there special care required for Mission Furniture?

Wood Mission Furniture needs the same care that standard wooden furniture requires.

What kind of wood is used in your Mission Furniture?

Our craftsmen use only the highest quality hardwoods when making mission furniture. This is to ensure the quality and durability of each piece of furniture we produce. While this isn’t a comprehensive list, here are the standard woods that make up our furniture: red oak, quartersawn white oak, cherry, hickory, walnut, brown maple, and hard maple.

All of our hardwoods are commercially managed and sustainably harvested from the United States or Canada. We take pride in the fact that not only are we using the highest quality wood, but that it’s also sustainable and great for the environment. This isn’t furniture that will end up in a landfill.

Can I mix and match dining room tables and chairs?

Yes, you can mix and match anything you'd like!  That’s the beauty of our showroom -- figuring out precisely what you want.  Our design consultants work with you to come up with a plan for your dining room, office, bedroom, or living room so that you can get a unified design and aesthetic that is entirely your own.

Also, don’t forget that we offer a complimentary in-home design service, so we can also have one of our design consultants visit your home to measure the space and provide recommendations.  We want this to be a painless, thorough process that gets you exactly what you need.
