When Neutral isn’t Neutral: In Defense of “Boring” Color Choices

November 15, 2019

For too long neutral colors have gotten a bad rap. Sure, neutral can seem boring, but it’s not. Your bigger pieces are the “bones” of your room. Picking a neutral color for your sofa allows you to accessorize around that. Accent furniture is always easier to replace than the big stuff — and it’s a way to reinvent a room without having to buy huge pieces again. Bold colors are tempting and fun — but it’s a super-easy way to date furniture very quickly.

Accent colors should mirror your day-to-day life.

Think about the colors you gravitate toward when you’re clothes shopping. Use this as your accent color. Are you more into classic navy, black, and grey, jewel tones, or neutrals? The colors you dress in are usually the colors you want to see all the time. Don’t overthink it — and don’t be pushed into something that feels too bold. Start neutral and build from there.

This is exactly why a Design Consultant is an important part of the furniture buying process.

Sometimes the best opinion comes when someone can see the forest AND the trees. That’s exactly what our Design Consultants can do for you. It’s not a sales pitch, it’s an ideas session. Our goal is that after a visit to our store you’ll come away feeling like you understand your space in a totally different way.
