The Ladderback, Bowback, Windsor and Traditional chairs at the Amish Craftsman offer a more traditional, informal look for dining rooms and kitchens. The Ladderback chairs have backs with horizontal slats – kind of looks like a ladder. A lot of them have curved backs to make quite a comfortable chair. Depending on the wood and the stain, Ladderbacks can blend in with a shaker or transitional styles quite well. The Bowbacks and Windsor chairs at The Amish Craftsman are classic chairs with design that dates back to the 1700’s. Bowbacks are popular in kitchens and provide comfortable simple seating. Bowback and Windsor chairs are made by hand, using a process called steam-bending. The solid-milled hardwood pieces are bent and assembled to form a curved back, all while maintaining the integrity of the chair’s construction. More traditional chairs, like our wheat back, can easily complement more formal or even French country décor. All our chairs are made with solid-milled hardwoods. Our builders use techniques such as corner blocks and mortise and tenon joints to ensure stability and longevity. Quality materials and solid craftsmanship ensure these chairs will last for generations. Most models come standard with a wood seat, but some designs can be upholstered in either leather or fabric. Most of our Ladderback, Bowback, Windsor and Traditional chairs are custom made, but you can see some of what we offer here:
