Started by a duo on a mission…
Husband and wife team Kim and Steve Murphy know how to embrace adversity and turn it into a positive opportunity. After a devastating flood in 2001 destroyed Kim and Steve’s home and its contents, their search began for quality, hand-crafted furniture made in the USA. Their furniture journey throughout Houston was unsuccessful, but an idea that would transform their home and careers was born. This is where The Amish Craftsman’s journey begins!
At the time, Kim worked as an environmental consultant and Steve was in the advertising business. However, both Kim and Steve always dreamed of having a small, locally owned family business. Kim’s brother, Darren, had perfect timing as he mentioned to the couple about his amazing furniture buying experience with Amish builders. A lightbulb went off for Kim and Steve and the pieces began to fall into place. Fast forward to December of 2006 when The Amish Craftsman first opened its doors.
Kim, Steve, and their adorably sweet son Declan are devoted Aggies and Houstonians. When not at work or on the playground, Kim enjoys gardening, biking, and basically anything that is outdoors related. Steve is an avid sports fan and also enjoys golf, fishing, and the great outdoors. Rounding out the Murphy clan is Petey, their “comfortably retired” champion sporting beagle, who pretty much runs the household.

As The Amish Craftsman has grown, our staff has expanded as well. Our energetic team of employees is invested in the success of their role within The Amish Craftsman, the company, and, most importantly, the customer experience. We’re a hard working bunch, but we certainly know how to have fun!
Darren Collins, Logistics Manager: Darren Collins is the Logistics Manager for The Amish Craftsman, and played an important role in getting the store started. He has established an honest relationship with our builders and sales staff, allowing smooth transitions from the moment a customer makes a final decision to the day of delivery. Darren is a native Houstonian, attended high school in London and is a graduate of Texas A&M. Darren loves to play guitar and is always up for a vacation in Peru.
Scott Maynard, Warehouse Manager: Scott Maynard has been an integral part of The Amish Craftsman for seven years, almost since it opened its doors. He is our warehouse manager, and oversees that each piece of furniture is handled carefully and delivered safely to its owner. Scott is married with two children and was born and raised in Houston, TX. Scott is a Houston restaurant aficionado, so if you need some ideas on getting a great meal, Scott can help you out. He also sports one of the finest collections of vintage baseball hats ever seen.
Jeanie Murphy, HR & Admin: Jeanie Murphy is the HR, Admin and Bookkeeper at The Amish Craftsman and has been with the store for over two years. We were able to lure her out of retirement where she had been with a marine and engineering consulting company for 25 years. Jeanie’s expertise in office management has proven a great asset to the business. When she’s not doting on “the world’s best grandson”, she enjoys travelling, reading, cooking and doing anything she can for her kids. If you ever get the chance to have a piece of her world-renowned peanut butter fudge, you’d better jump at it!
Scott Murphy, Warehouse and Delivery: Scott Murphy has been with The Amish Craftsman almost two years, just long enough to make lasting positive impressions on our customers. He is knowledgeable about the furniture and helpful to customers and takes careful measures to ensure safe and clean deliveries. A Missouri native but raised in Katy, Scott is an avid hunter and loves to fish and root for the Astros and Texans.
Wesleigh Christian, Sales Associate: Wesleigh Christian is a Sales Associate with The Amish Craftsman, so you can probably find her smiling face on the showroom floor. She takes pride in helping others select their next family heirloom. Her passion for fine craftsmanship is nurtured in her free time by her enthusiasm for her own DIY projects she finds on Pinterest. Some of her favorite she’s completed include a few painting projects, a couple tufted headboards, and some wreaths. Wesleigh even remodeled her own kitchen. A lover of travel, she would rather be anywhere tropical and never tires of Pho or Mexican food.
Leighanna Witt, Virtual Assistant: Leighanna spends most of her days behind the scenes at The Amish Craftsman making sure everything is on schedule and running smoothly. Though her background is in the medical field, her love of organization and attention to detail makes her just the right fit for the job. In her spare time (when she isn’t kissing her 3-year-old’s boo boos or spelling every word in the dictionary for her 5-year-old), Leighanna loves collecting fresh eggs from her 13 chickens and helping her husband in the garden. Just don’t expect her to eat all of those fresh veggies. You can usually find her in the gym or out for a run before chowing down on a cheeseburger or a few too many slices of pizza.
